CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A circus targeted by animal rights activists over its boxing kangaroo admits misleading the public when it said the animal's act had been dropped.
The Connersville News-Examiner reported Tuesday that "Rocky" the boxing kangaroo appeared with the Stardust Circus last weekend at the Fayette County Fairgrounds despite circus owner Oscar Garcia's statements last week that the animal and its owners had left its tour.
Garcia's daughter, Celeste Garcia, says Rocky's act occurred because the circus needed to cancel other acts that didn't fit within the fairgrounds' Expo Hall. She apologized that the circus "couldn't be completely straightforward."
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals had protested the plans for Rocky's appearance.
Fayette County Free Fair Association President Ted McQuinley says Celeste Garcia had told him the kangaroo wouldn't appear.
