Steve Freese’s roller coaster ride as head of the Circus World Museum is coming to an end.
Freese, 53, has resigned as executive director of the museum in Baraboo, and will become the chief administrative officer of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau, Circus World Museum said in a statement Monday.
His last day at the museum will be Aug. 18.
The resignation comes after a tumultuous six months during which Gov. Scott Walker sought to have the Wisconsin Historical Society take over day-to-day operations of Circus World, a move fought by the museum’s foundation.
