The show will go on this afternoon at the big top.
On Friday night, the audience saw only the first half of Circus Flora’s “A Trip to the Moon” due to tornado warnings.
At intermission, shortly after the Flying Wallendas walked the high wire, theater director Cecil MacKinnon calmly told the audience that tornado sirens were on and asked everyone to evacuate to Veterans Hospital across the street. The crowd, mostly families with young children, made its way across Grand Boulevard to the hospital. Security directed people to the basement where they waited for about an hour for the threat to pass.
Circus Flora performs at 1 p.m. today and has its Flora Dora gala at 6 tonight. "A Trip to the Moon" runs through June 23 at Grand Boulevard and Samuel Shepard Drive near Powell Symphony Hall. For more information, visit circusflora.org.
