MENDON — The Mendon Lions Club will host the Kelly-Miller Circus once again this month, in an effort to raise funds for the club.
The circus will be in town on Tuesday, June 25, and will host two shows.
Tom Irons, a member of the Lions Club, said this is the sixth year the club has hosted a circus day.
"In previous years, the money raised has been used for different things around town, like the pavilion at Memorial Field," Irons said. "This year, the money will be going to Lions charities, which primarily deal with eye-related issues.
"We're able to raise several thousand dollars each time we have a circus," he added.
The circus this year will feature numerous animals, including elephants, tigers and camels. There will also be a free tent-raising that morning.
Irons said the turnout at the circus has been quite good.
"The circus does very well in Mendon," he said. "Last year, they said, with the town before us, the tent was only half-full. Mendon sold out both shows."
He said about 2,000 people showed up last year.
The circus will hold its tent-raising at 8 a.m. on June 25 at the lot at the intersection of Milford Street (Route 16) and North Avenue. The shows will be held at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
